WHY OUR CATHOLIC SCHOOL?

Our students reflect on “What a Catholic education means to them?”

I am an eighth grader here at Saint Margaret School. I have been attending Saint Margaret since Pre-k, which is 10 years total. I have developed as a Catholic in the best way possible. I am very appreciative of my parents for sending me to a Catholic school because it means so much to me to do the right things and to strengthen my faith in God. A Catholic education provides a small, comfortable environment and a very good education, which includes Religion.
A Catholic education is very important for a young child to grow up with. It teaches one at a young age the difference between right and wrong and how to have respect for one’s elders. It can help children grow in many different ways by allowing them to talk or pray to God. A Catholic education gives students every subject we would learn in a public school but in addition, it also gives us religion, the practice of our faith. Every month Saint Margaret provides a group prayer service to unite our school as one and pray for others not as fortunate as us. This is only one example of how students at a Catholic School get to live out their faith with others.
A Catholic education means a lot to me personally. It has made me who I am today. It has taught me more about my faith and being a better person all together. A Catholic education has brought me closer to God and has given me a chance to serve him in many ways, such as altar serving. Because of the safe and warm environment it gives me, I am more comfortable around others and adults. It is not just important to me, but also to my parents. They are willing to pay for me to have a Catholic education, which I appreciate a lot. Without a Catholic education, I don’t think I would be the polite and considerate person I am today.
I have so many things to be grateful for and one of them is the people who support me and my Catholic education. There have been so many people that have led me onto the right path to make my life better. Sister Corinne, Father Chapman, the faculty, the parish community, and my parents are all great examples. They have taught me so many things about God and they have always helped me when I was being pointed in the wrong direction. They all care about me which is what you get when you attend to a Catholic school. They have all made a great impact in my life and have taught me so much. Thank You! Tessa Wade, Class of 2008

A Parent Perspective
There is no need to remind you of the educational statistics of the Lower Merion School District, but we will just name a few from their website:The Lower Merion School District serves the 62,000 residents of Lower Merion Township and the Borough of Narberth. Established as one of Pennsylvania's first public school districts in 1834, it employs a rich tradition of achievement, innovation and community partnership as well as a longstanding reputation as one of the finest school systems in the United States. The District's six elementary schools, two middle schools and two high schools provide a challenging, multi-disciplinary academic program and dynamic, co-curricular experience to more than 6,900 students.

Of the District's nine eligible schools, all have received recognition for excellence by the Commonwealth and seven have received the National Blue Ribbon Award for Excellence in Education. These schools rank among the highest in Pennsylvania for SAT and PSAT scores, AP Participation rate, total number of National Merit Semifinalists, total number of International Baccalaureate diplomas granted and in numerous publications' ''Top Schools'' lists. Approximately ninety-four percent of high school graduates attend institutions of higher learning.

That being disclosed, the decision to send our children to St. Margaret’s school is one we make with great conviction, providing not only academic excellence in a nationally ranked program, but also serving the emotional and spiritual needs of our children; two metrics we find too easily discounted. We feel St. Margaret’s provides children with a no-nonsense, “heads-down” approach to learning and a “heads-up” approach to respecting ones-self and others.

Our daughter is currently enrolled in your kindergarten program. Her teacher this year is Ms. Caitlyn Boyle. We get a great sense of what is being taught in her classroom through the contents in her backpack and the smile on her face any given night. Contents include: letter recognition and formation, reading comprehension, “creative works” and numerous classroom communications. We always feel well-connected to the kindergarten program through Ms. Boyle’s “high-touch” approach. Her curriculum, patience, professionalism and kindness are evident and valued. Ms. Boyle is not only the “star” of the day in our daughter’s eyes, but in our eyes as well.

We hold Ms. Boyle in high regard, and it is our hope that our next two children attending St. Margaret’s are fortunate enough to learn from her examples, are molded through her effective methods, and are touched by her kindnesses.

Please pass on our best regards to your dedicated teaching and administrative staff. They are second to none. Our Best, Tara & Stephen McDonnell
